For a predictions league that means eight midweek rounds of eighteen fixtures each in the autumn, followed by two-legged ties in the spring where every leg is a separate prediction.
The league phase is where the points pile up. The draw pairs giants with debutants, so a good chunk of every round is one-sided and the field agrees; the separation comes from the handful of ties between clubs of similar strength, and from remembering that away goals no longer count double, so a 1-1 is exactly as good for both sides as it looks. Knockout legs are tighter and lower-scoring than group games, and the second leg of a tie that is already decided is where the strangest scorelines of the season appear.
